Norwegian seafood group Hofseth has added two battery-hybrid service vessels to support its aquaculture operations in Storfjorden, under an agreement with Trident Aqua Services.
The vessels, Multi Storfjord and Multi Navigator, have entered service and will be used across Hofseth’s farming operations. Trident said the vessels are capable of operating for a full working day on battery power when charged from shore facilities.
The agreement provides another reference project for Trident Aqua Services, which was formed last year through the merger of FSV Group, Intership and Aquaship. The company operates a fleet of 64 vessels serving aquaculture customers in Norway, Chile, the UK, Ireland, Canada and the Faroe Islands.
Hofseth has invested heavily in shore-side infrastructure as part of efforts to reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency across its farming operations. According to Trident, the hybrid setup could displace approximately 200,000 litres of fuel annually under normal operating conditions.
The vessels will be formally named at a ceremony in Ålesund on 13 June.
