The Master Fishmonger Standard certifies fishmongers across five tiers, celebrating professional excellence and encouraging career progression within the trade.

The Fishmongers’ Company congratulated four new recipients of the Master Fishmonger Standard (MFS) this month. These individuals are the first to pass their assessments since the Seafood Grimsby & Humber Alliance took over stewardship of the scheme.

Gavin O’Donnell, Charities Communication Manager at The Fishmongers’ Company, praised the candidates for their commitment and skill in fishmongering. The newly accredited Master Tier recipients include Sue Mackenzie of The Fish Shop; Passionate about Fish Ltd, and CJ Jackson from Billingsgate Seafood School. Alan Brinck from Waitrose and Joe Hembrough from The Menai Seafood Company achieved the Recognised Tier.

Alan Brinck expressed his excitement about receiving the MFS recognition, looking forward to future engagements within the industry.

Chris Parker, Wales Seafood Cluster Manager and MFS assessor, highlighted the program’s role in promoting exceptional knowledge and craftsmanship in the fish trade.

“As an assessor for The Master Fishmonger Standard, I find it incredibly rewarding to witness first-hand how this program promotes exceptional knowledge, craftsmanship, and high standards in the industry. Congratulations to our recent candidates—your awards are well-deserved,” said Parker.
