Death toll still climbing but some signs of it slowing down.

Chilean authority Sernapesca reports that the final numbers for Southern Chile’s algae bloom come in at 5,595 tonnes of dead fish.

As of Monday, 15 salmon farms have kept up action plans for mass mortality. Six are from the Los Lagos region, and nine are from the Aysén region.

However, some sites have decreased their mortality to low levels, and contingency may be completed if environmental conditions permit.

To date, the authority reports that 95 per-cent of dead fish have been withdrawn from the site, with some sent to be processed for fishmeal and fish oil.
