Veteran leader returns to the helm for Gigante Salmon

Departing CEO Helge E.W Albertsen will continue to serve as an advisor to the company until 30 June 2024 to ensure a smooth transition.

Land-based salmon producer Gigante Salmon has appointed Kjell Lorentsen as CEO.

Lorentsen was appointed as acting CEO on 19 March 2024, and is now transitioning into the role on a permanent basis, according to a release from the company on Tuesday.

Kjell Lorentsen was CEO in the company from its establishment until September 2021 and has been a member of the producer’s non-executive board. He has, through his role as CEO and acting CEO, “convinced the board of directors that he has the experience, the decisiveness, the vision and the ambition to drive the further development of the company.”

Following 2.5 years of dedicated construction, it’s truly rewarding to witness the success of our efforts, evidenced by the thriving fish in our facility. I look forward to developing the company into a commercially robust participant in the future of land-based aquaculture industry,” said Lorentsen.

The company’s nomination committee has recommended Liv Monica Stubholt as the new chairperson of the board, replacing Eirik Sørgård who is retiring. Kristian Lorentsen, Dagfinn Eliassen, and Iselin Tenfjord are also proposed as new board members, with Kristin Ingebrigtsen retiring.

Lorentsen has been working in the aquaculture industry since 1988 and is the founder of  family-owned aquaculture group Gigante Havbruk with an annual production of 14,000 tons of salmon. The group holds significant interests in the Salten Aqua group and through its subsidiaries, it’s the world’s largest private provider of R&D services in salmon aquaculture.

Liv Monica Stubholt, with a robust background in the seafood industry including a stint as CEO of Aker Seafoods, is a partner at Advokatfirmaet Selmer AS and specializes in ESG and Compliance. Her experience extends to political roles and significant non-executive board positions in the aquaculture industry.
