Norwegian authorities have reported a suspected outbreak of infectious salmon anaemia (ISA) at the Seiskjæra sea site in Åfjord municipality, Trøndelag.
The site, operated by SalMar Oppdrett for grow-out salmon production, was flagged following routine testing. Samples taken from site 10398 formed the basis for the suspicion, according to a statement from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet). Preliminary results dated 28 April support the suspicion of ISA.
SalMar notified the authorities of the possible case on 25 April.
Mattilsynet will carry out further sampling, with material to be analysed by the Norwegian Veterinary Institute to confirm the diagnosis.
To prevent potential spread, movement restrictions have been imposed on the site, including a ban on transferring fish without special permission. If ILA is confirmed, Mattilsynet may order a full or partial cull of the site, and a restriction zone could be established in the area to control the disease.
