Pelagia acquires Fjord Solutions to expand aquaculture sludge management offering.
Pelagia has acquired 100 percent of the shares in Fjord Solutions, further strengthening its position in providing complete sludge solutions for the aquaculture industry. The acquisition includes Fjord Solutions’ employees, products, and patents, which will now become an integral part of Pelagia.
Fjord Solutions’ BioCollector system, designed to capture and transport feed waste and sludge from open and semi-closed cages, is at the core of the acquisition. The company’s technology complements Pelagia’s existing logistics and processing expertise, as well as the dewatering and sludge value creation capabilities gained through the acquisition of Blue Ocean Technology in 2024, according to a press release from the company.
“Fjord Solutions is a valuable addition to our portfolio. It gives us the opportunity to combine sludge collection at sea with dewatering, intermediate storage and transport. We provide our customers with fewer interfaces, lower operating costs and better resource utilisation,” said Egil Magne Haugstad, CEO of Pelagia.
Knut Antonsen, COO and Head of Sludge at Pelagia, said the acquisition will streamline the company’s solutions and support its market ambitions. “By gathering our resources and expertise in a single unit, we are accelerating the development of new solutions and streamlining existing offerings. Our goal is to expand our market share by covering more links in the value chain, thereby delivering even more comprehensive and competitive solutions to the industry.”
The acquisition has been well received by the industry, with Pelagia positioning itself as a leading provider of sludge solutions for sea-based aquaculture.
“Becoming part of Pelagia is the right choice for us. It gives us the opportunity to further develop our innovative solutions, while strengthening our ability to deliver complete systems to the industry. We look forward to becoming part of the Pelagia team,” said Daria Lysova, CEO of Fjord Solutions.
Pelagia is jointly owned by Austevoll Seafood ASA and Kvefi AS.
