Pelagia secures contract for full-scale aquaculture sludge system.
Pelagia has signed an agreement to deliver a complete sludge handling solution to an undisclosed major aquaculture company, marking a further step in its strategy to expand within the waste management segment of the sector.
The project, set to be operational in autumn 2025, will be delivered through Pelagia Blue Ocean and encompasses the full sludge management value chain — from collection and dewatering to intermediate storage and logistics. The collection component is based on technology developed by Fjord Solutions, which Pelagia acquired in full earlier this year.
“Our goal since becoming part of Pelagia has been to offer a total solution that covers the entire process from collection, processing and storage — to efficient logistics and resource utilisation of sludge,” said Knut Antonsen, head of Pelagia Blue Ocean. “This agreement is an important step towards becoming a fully integrated player in aquaculture sludge.”
Pelagia is majority-owned by Austevoll Seafood and Kverva (through Kvefi AS) and has operations across Norway, the UK, Ireland, Denmark and Ukraine. The company is best known for pelagic fish processing, marine omega-3 production, and supplying fishmeal and fish oil for feed.
No financial details of the agreement were disclosed.
