Tesco commits to 100% Scottish-sourced salmon in Scottish stores by 2026.
Tesco has announced plans to move to 100% Scottish-sourced fresh salmon and beef in its Scottish stores by spring 2026, strengthening its sourcing credentials and increasing support for domestic producers.
The UK’s largest supermarket said the transition will apply to both fresh and smoked salmon, alongside a fully Scotch beef supply chain, meaning all beef sold in Scottish stores will be reared, sourced, and packed in Scotland. The company noted that at exceptional times of year, some topping up may still be necessary to maintain supply.
The move follows a 44% year-on-year volume increase in Tesco’s Finest Scottish Salmon range in 2024. For beef, the company has increased Scotch volumes by 23% over the last 12 months, with the additional supply representing an estimated £30 million boost to the Scottish economy.
Richard Wood, Tesco’s Director of Meat, Fish, Poultry and Eggs, said:
“We’re now delighted to announce we’ll be able to offer 100% Scotch beef and salmon to customers shopping in our Scottish stores in Spring 2026. Through collaboration with our supplier partners, we are able to ensure that our products are the highest quality for our customers, benefiting both farmers and suppliers, and the Scottish economy.”
Tesco currently sources from nearly 200 Scottish suppliers and employs around 50,000 people directly or indirectly in Scotland. Its Sustainable Farming Groups, including a beef group with 59 Scottish members, offer farmers fixed pricing structures and long-term contracts, supporting investment in lower-emission farming and biodiversity initiatives.
The retailer’s latest sourcing commitments were promoted during this year’s Royal Highland Show, where Tesco showcased Scottish food and drink from its local suppliers.
