Turkish trout exports reach $217 million in first half of 2025
Türkiye exported 32,000 tonnes of trout worth $217 million in the first six months of 2025, according to figures released by the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB).
The fish, initially raised in inland farms before being transferred to sea cages in the Black Sea, was shipped to 25 countries between January and June. Russia remained the top destination, accounting for $150 million in sales, followed by Belarus at $20.5 million and Japan at $15.77 million.
Azerbaijan was added to the list of importing countries during the period, reflecting the expanding reach of Turkish steelhead in global markets.
İsmail Kobya, head of DKİB’s Aquaculture Committee, described the results as an indication of growing international recognition. “This is more than a numerical success — it’s a sign that our hard work and quality are being globally recognized,” he said.
He added that efforts were ongoing to open new markets and intensify promotional activity. “Turkish ‘salmon’ has become not just an export product, but a symbol of our agricultural strength, technological advancement in aquaculture and commitment to sustainable production.”
The industry is targeting annual export revenues exceeding $500 million, according to Kobya.
