Center for Aquaculture Technologies appoints Sam May as Genetic Services Lead for US and Canada
The Center for Aquaculture Technologies (CAT) has appointed Samuel May as its new Genetic Services Lead for the United States and Canada, as the company expands its support for selective breeding programs across North America.
May holds a Ph.D. in genetics and previously managed the USDA salmon breeding program in Maine, where he worked on cryopreservation, trait selection, and genetic diversity. He joins CAT with experience spanning coral research, salmon genetics, and applied aquaculture breeding.
In his new role, May will oversee selective breeding programs for aquaculture producers in the U.S. and Canada, helping clients implement advanced genetic tools, streamline operations, and improve stock performance. His appointment is part of CAT’s broader push to deliver customized, data-driven genetics solutions across a range of aquatic species.
“Bringing Sam on board strengthens our support for clients across North America,” said Klara Verbyla, Vice President of Genetic Improvement at CAT. “His diverse experience enhances our ability to apply advanced genetic tools in practical settings.”
CAT manages more than 20 breeding programs globally and offers over 50 genomic tools to support producers with genotyping, genome editing, data analytics, and quantitative breeding strategies.
The company says its focus is on enabling measurable gains in disease resistance, growth efficiency, and sustainability, helping clients adapt to evolving production and environmental demands.
