Suspected ISA case reported at Holmøy Havbruk site in Nordland.

The Norwegian Food Safety Authority has reported a suspected case of infectious salmon anaemia (ISA) at Holmøy Havbruk’s Innerbrokløysa site in Sortland municipality, Nordland county.

The suspicion was raised on 25 July following clinical signs of the disease observed at the site. Holmøy Havbruk notified the authorities, and samples have been sent to the Norwegian Veterinary Institute for confirmation.

ISA is a notifiable viral disease that affects farmed Atlantic salmon. It is classified as a category C disease in Norway, which requires containment measures to prevent its spread. Temporary restrictions have been imposed on the movement of fish from the site.

If confirmed, the Food Safety Authority may order the site to be fully emptied.

In May, Holmøy Havbruk also reported suspected ILA cases at several other sites in Sortland.
