No imminent upswing.
Salmon prices have followed the same pattern this summer as in the first half of the year – steadily declining. No major changes are expected for the coming week.
“This week was quite difficult, but it improved yesterday. Things slowed down yesterday,” an exporter told SalmonBusiness.
“My guess for next week: NOK 53 ($5.19/€4.45), NOK 54 ($5.29/€4.54) and NOK 56 ($5.49/€4.70) for 3–6 kg (FOB plant in Northern Norway). But it hasn’t really settled yet,” he added.
Flat
This means only modest price movements.
“For us, it’s flat on 3–4 kg, and then 4–5 kg and 5–6 kg come down a bit. The size categories have come closer together in price.”
Several independent market players refer to prices that are moving sideways from last Friday’s level.
“Yes, prices are relatively stable,” one of them wrote in a text message to SalmonBusiness.
Transport
“In the high NOK 50s – just under NOK 60 ($5.88/€5.04) – around there,” said another exporter.
“There’s enough fish. It’s not likely to be much less towards the end of the month. The temperatures are good and there’s MTB slaughter. There’s certainly no shortage of fish. There aren’t going to be big changes in the coming weeks. I don’t believe that.”
Others are scratching their heads over why sales prices are not lower.
“The market isn’t in that range. Prices have been falling all week. Less fish next week? Nothing indicates that. Transport is difficult, so the numbers don’t add up,” said a buyer.
