Vindheim calls for sweeping tax cuts, likens approach to “giving back”.
Mowi CEO Ivan Vindheim has called for the removal of corporate and personal taxation in Norway, saying such a move would dramatically boost investment and position the country as a potential “Silicon Valley.”
Speaking in a political context as a local deputy for the Conservative Party, Vindheim argued for NOK 500 billion ($49 billion/€42.5 billion) in tax relief, framing his view in stark terms: “I’m Mother Teresa. I just take the money and give it back to the people.”
The comment, made to Bergens Tidende, drew a measured response from Conservative Party leader Erna Solberg, who described the proposal as “like taking a whole bottle of cod liver oil at once.” While not dismissing the ambition, Solberg noted that taxation remains essential for funding key services, including defence and public infrastructure.
Vindheim, who holds a seat as a deputy member of Bergen’s city council, has previously said politics — both local and national — could benefit from a stronger business mindset. His comments come days after Mowi reported second-quarter earnings and took part in the Vestland på Børs investor forum.
