Nofima joins Salmon Living Lab as research partner.

Nofima has entered into a partnership with Salmon Living Lab to strengthen research and innovation in salmon farming. The collaboration aims to close biological knowledge gaps, improve survival rates, and enhance fish welfare.

Salmon Living Lab CEO Kristine Hartmann said the agreement will support the development of solutions that advance global salmon research and ensure new knowledge is rapidly applied in aquaculture.

“Nofima is one of the leading players in food and aquaculture research. Their strong expertise in salmon biology, health and welfare enables Salmon Living Lab to develop projects that better connect research with practice,” Hartmann said.

Nofima CEO Bente E. Torstensen said the institute views the initiative as a “forward-looking and long-awaited” step for the industry. “We firmly believe that cross-sector collaboration is key to filling knowledge gaps in salmon biology, fish health and welfare,” Torstensen said.

Nofima becomes the sixth partner in Salmon Living Lab, joining one salmon farming company, one feed company, one university, one research institute, and one governmental institute.

The first phase of the partnership (2025–2026) will focus on developing a joint global R&D strategy, while launching specific projects and mapping needs for research and testing infrastructure.
