Mowi’s Nova Sea acquisition under EU competition scrutiny.
The European Commission has received notification of Mowi’s planned acquisition of Nova Sea, triggering a review under EU merger rules.
The notification was filed on 12 September and published in the Official Journal on 22 September. The case is registered as M.11914 – Mowi/Nova Sea.
Mowi, the world’s largest salmon producer, plans to acquire sole control of Nova Sea through a share purchase. Nova Sea operates salmon farming and primary processing facilities in northern Norway.
The Commission said the deal could fall within the scope of the EU Merger Regulation and has invited third parties to submit comments by 2 October.
Mowi announced in January that it had agreed to acquire the 46 percent stake in Nova Sea held by Vigner Olaisen for NOK 7.4 billion (€630 million/$660 million), raising its holding to about 95 percent.
The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval.
