Bluegreen completes launches of closed FishGlobe units.
Bluegreen Group has launched two closed aquaculture units at its shipyard in Grenland, Telemark, according to a company statement.
The installations, FishGlobe 3.5k and FishGlobe 10k, have biomass capacities of 262 tonnes and 750 tonnes respectively. The technology is developed and owned by Rogaland-based FishGlobe Technologies, while Bluegreen is responsible for construction.
The launch operation involved the crane vessel Uglen, with a lifting capacity of 800 tonnes, to move the structures into the water. The units were then towed to Arendal for inspection, testing and completion before delivery abroad. One of the globes is scheduled for use in Saudi Arabia for yellowtail farming.
“Even though this wasn’t the largest one, it was an impressive sight to see a closed fish farming facility of this scale being lifted, moved, and lowered into the sea,” said Per Håkon Stenhaug, senior advisor, in a LinkedIn post after attending the launch.
Bluegreen has also started work on a larger model, the FishGlobe 30k, with a biomass capacity of 2,250 tonnes. Nova Sea has ordered this unit as part of its collaboration with FishGlobe on closed containment.
