NES secures contract for new live fish carrier for North Salmon Service.

Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) has been awarded a contract to supply power and automation systems for a new live fish carrier being built by Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted for North Salmon Service.

Under the agreement, NES will act as system integrator and deliver propulsion and bow thruster motors, generators, transformers, AC/DC switchboards, a battery pack, and a charging solution. The company will also supply an integrated automation system (IAS) and power management system (PMS).

“We’re happy to see activity picking up in the aquaculture segment after a quiet period following the 2023 tax changes,” said Siv Remøy-Vangen, Managing Director of NES. “This contract reflects a shared focus on vessel performance and long-term value. We look forward to continuing the collaboration with both Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted and North Salmon Service.”

Deliveries of NES’s systems and equipment are scheduled for the second half of 2026 and the first half of 2027.

Hugo Strand, CEO of Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted, said he was pleased to have NES join the FMV63 project. “NES has been involved in the sales phase of this innovative HAV 595 design, and I’m convinced they will be a reliable and competent supplier to FMV, and also pull their weight when the ship enters operations.”

The HAV 595 vessel, designed by NES’s sister company HAV Design, will have a fish well capacity of 5,000 cubic metres and supports a wide range of live fish operations including transport and sorting. The design prioritises biosecurity, fish welfare, cost-efficiency, and environmental performance.

Jan Klokk, VP Sales at NES, said the company’s integrated energy and control systems will ensure safe and energy-efficient operations. “We are delivering well-proven power and automation systems to this vessel and look forward to close cooperation with all partners,” he said.

NES is a subsidiary of HAV Group ASA, listed on Euronext Growth Oslo.
