NTT Green & Food to develop land-based Coho and trout farm in Japan.

NTT Green & Food plans to begin construction in early 2026 on a land-based aquaculture facility for Coho salmon and trout in Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture. The project will use recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) technology supplied in collaboration with Malta-based AquaBioTech Group.

The development, located in the Koizumi district, forms part of NTT Green & Food’s wider programme to support regional revitalisation through technology-led projects. The company is positioning land-based aquaculture as a core element of this strategy.

Once completed in the 2026 financial year, the facility is expected to produce around 310 tonnes of market-size fish annually, alongside approximately 260 tonnes of intermediate-size Coho salmon intended for offshore aquaculture operations within the prefecture.

AquaBioTech Group CEO Shane A. Hunter said the company was pleased to be involved in the project, which he described as significant for the development of intensive land-based aquaculture in Japan.

NTT Green & Food president Yoshikazu Kusumi said the company aims to support regional industry and employment through land-based production and intends to strengthen cooperation with AquaBioTech Group and other partners as the project advances.
