Sirevåg Laks to start fundraising in new year for $230 million RAS build.
A planned post-smolt facility in Sirevåg on Norway’s Jæren coast has moved closer to development after the project company submitted a licence application to Rogaland county authorities.
Sirevåg Laks has applied for a permit to build a land-based RAS facility with capacity to produce 8,000–10,000 tonnes of post-smolt annually, according to local newspaper Jærbladet (paywalled) in a story that was picked up by iLaks.
In addition to post-smolt production, the facility is expected to generate around 10,000 tonnes of sludge per year, which the developers aim to utilise in a planned nearby biogas plant.
Sirevåg Laks is owned 50/50 by Norsea and Fjardar Holding. Norsea is owned by the Wilhelmsen shipping group. Fjardar Holding is owned in equal parts by Eivind Helland, Andreas Heskedal, Morten Bergslien and Gøran Varmbo.
The project traces its origins to Årdal Aqua, before Norsea took over an option agreement with Hå municipality to acquire a 30-decare industrial site for NOK 37.5 million ($3.6 million).
Chair John Olaf Næsheim told Jærbladet that the permitting process is now under way. He also said the company plans to begin raising capital for the project in the new year, citing expected growth in demand for post-smolt, particularly from offshore aquaculture developments.
