Tytlandsvik Aqua has acquired Fister Smolt, strengthening its upstream value chain as it continues to expand post-smolt capacity in Rogaland.
Fister Smolt was established in 1974 and taken over by its current owners in 1999. The company has been the main supplier of live fish to Tytlandsvik Aqua since the post-smolt producer’s start-up phase. The sellers were also among the initiators behind the establishment of Tytlandsvik Aqua together with Bremnes Seashore and Grieg Seafood Rogaland between 2016 and 2019.
Tytlandsvik Aqua said the transaction would strengthen the value chain supporting its post-smolt strategy and improve flexibility across land-based operations. The company added that the acquisition builds on a long-standing collaboration between the two businesses and will not lead to changes in existing cooperation.
Tytlandsvik Aqua operates a post-smolt facility in Hjelmeland municipality in Rogaland, which was established in 2014. The company is jointly owned by Bremnes Seashore, Grieg Seafood Rogaland and Vest Havbruk, each holding an equal one-third stake.
Construction of two additional production halls is scheduled to begin in March. Once the expansion is completed in 2028, Tytlandsvik Aqua expects to reach a total post-smolt capacity of approximately 9,000 tonnes per year.
The Viga family, which is selling Fister Smolt, will remain closely involved in the further development of Tytlandsvik Aqua through its ownership in Vest Havbruk, the company said.
