Aller Aqua Norge has been ordered to pay a NOK 5 million (€445,000) fine for violating Norway’s Aquaculture Act after a salmon escape incident in 2022.
The Gulating Court of Appeal increased the penalty after around 35,000 salmon escaped from the company’s Floteneset site in Vadheimsfjorden, Sogn, on October 29, 2022, according to Bergens Tidende.
The court also ordered the company to pay NOK 250,000 (€22,250) in legal costs.
Authorities initially issued a NOK 4.5 million (€400,500) penalty in October 2024, which the company refused to accept. Prosecutors later sought a NOK 5.5 million (€489,500) fine when the case went to court.
The Sogn og Fjordane District Court ruled in September 2025 that Aller Aqua should pay NOK 2.7 million (€240,300). The company appealed the ruling, leading to the higher fine imposed by the Court of Appeal.
Aller Aqua Norge is wholly owned by Danish aquafeed producer Aller Aqua.
