Bakkafrost Scotland has taken delivery of a new £1.2 million landing craft built by Bute Boat Builders.
The vessel, named Spirit of Bute, will operate at the company’s salmon farming sites in Loch Striven in Argyll and Bute and around the island of Arran, according to the company.
The 19.5-metre by 7.5-metre craft is equipped with an FNC8 net washing system, designed to keep salmon nets clear in the water to maintain water flow through pens. It is also fitted with a six-tonne crane and onboard accommodation for crew to support lifting and routine farm operations.
The latest order brings Bakkafrost Scotland’s total investment in vessels built on the island of Bute to approximately £7.2 million across seven vessels. Previous builds delivered to the company include Maid of Ulva, Clare Anne, Lady Charlotte, Netty, Fyne Blue, and Lady of Striven.
Bakkafrost Scotland said the vessel will support day-to-day aquaculture operations including net cleaning and general farm servicing across its sites.
The company employs more than 400 staff across 45 locations on Scotland’s west coast and the Hebridean islands, with its headquarters in Edinburgh.
