Chilean salmon standing biomass fell 4.9% year-on-year in April to 434.6kt (live weight equivalent), according to Aquabench data cited by Fearnley Securities.
The decline was driven by lower average fish weights and fewer individuals in the water. Average fish weight fell 3.3% year-on-year to 2.35kg, while fish numbers declined 1.9% to 184.7 million.
Feed consumption dropped 2% to 93.3kt, indicating weaker sea growth conditions compared with 2025.
April harvest volumes totalled 61.7kt (whole fish equivalent), up 3.0% year-on-year. Harvested fish numbers rose 4.7% to 12.3 million, partly offset by a 1.6% decline in average harvest weight to 5.00kg.
Fearnley Securities said the slowdown marked a sharp deceleration from double-digit harvest growth recorded in the first quarter and expects harvest growth to turn negative in May and during the summer months due to tougher year-on-year comparisons and lower biomass.
FOB Miami prices for 2-4lb Atlantic salmon averaged USD 6.7/lb in April, up around 10% year-on-year. Fearnley Securities said the Chilean data supported positive demand and pricing dynamics for European salmon producers.
