WellFish Tech has renewed its partnership with Bue Salmon as the Norwegian land-based salmon farmer moves ahead with development work at its planned large-scale facility at Lutelandet in Vestland.
Bue Salmon has used WellFish Tech’s blood biomarker analysis platform since September 2025 at its pilot facility at Gjørøy Nord in Bulandet. The system is designed to monitor fish health and biological performance through routine blood sampling, with the aim of identifying stress or production issues before they become operational problems.
The renewed agreement comes as Bue begins preparatory groundworks at Lutelandet, where the company holds a licence for 50,000 tonnes of production capacity. The project is intended to become one of Norway’s largest land-based salmon farming facilities if fully developed.
Land-based salmon farming projects have increasingly focused on data collection and monitoring tools as operators attempt to reduce biological risk and improve predictability in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), which remain capital intensive and operationally complex at scale.
Bue currently operates a pilot facility in Bulandet with annual production capacity of just under 2,000 tonnes. The company was established in 2015 and is headquartered in Florø.
WellFish Tech, headquartered in Paisley, Scotland, provides fish health analytics and predictive modelling services to aquaculture producers in the UK, Ireland, Norway and Canada. The company employs 26 people.
