The market is tightening.
“It’s up by a couple of kroner,” one buyer told SalmonBusiness.
He referred to the following prices, to farmers, for the coming week:
-
3–4 kg: NOK 68–69 ($6.73–$6.83/€5.78–€5.87)
-
4–5 kg: NOK 70–71 ($6.93–$7.03/€5.95–€6.04)
-
5–6 kg: NOK 71–72 ($7.03–$7.13/€6.04–€6.12)
-
6+ kg: NOK 74 ($7.33/€6.29)
Market stabilising
“There’s plenty of fish. Enough fish. Yesterday there was more chasing around than today. Things have calmed down a bit. Customers have bought what they need.”
“I think prices will stay around this level. Hopefully they’ll hold. At this level, people are making money.”
“NOK 69, 70 and 72 ($6.83, $6.93, $7.13/€5.87, €5.95, €6.12) on 3–6 kg,” said one exporter about next week’s prices.
“But what’s been difficult this week is the 5–6 kg category. There’s been a lot of 5–6 kg fish available, and many processors prefer 3–4 and 4–5 kg for production. They can use 5–6 kg fish too, but then they have to trim more from the belly, which means more by-products,” he explained.
“The last trucks we sold this week went at a flat price for 4–5 and 5–6 kg. It’s definitely an increase, no doubt about that,” he added.
Upward movement
All industry sources SalmonBusiness spoke with after lunch on Friday confirmed a clear rise in prices compared with last Friday’s levels.
“It looks like we’re getting NOK 69, 70 and 71 ($6.83, $6.93, $7.03/€5.87, €5.95, €6.04) again,” said one trader.
“I think it’s a bit higher. NOK 70, 71–73 and 75 ($6.93, $7.03–$7.23, $7.43/€5.95, €6.04–€6.21, €6.38) for 3–6 kg,” said one farmer.
“Around NOK 75 ($7.43/€6.38). A bit lower for 3–4 and 4–5 kg,” said another exporter.
