Aller Aqua buys loss-making trout farmer

The Danish feed producer Aller Aqua Group took over the entire share capital in Danforel on 1 May.

“From Aller Aqua’s side, we look forward to the new close collaboration between the companies, which will give both companies better opportunities to optimize fish farming, processing and marketing in the future,” Aller Aqua CEO Hans Erik Bylling said in a press release.

Danforel is fully integrated, from fry production, via fish farming and processing. The company, which is based in Grindsted in Jutland, claims to be “Europe’s leading supplier of smoked trout fillets”.

“Soon we will start new investments in expanded spawning grounds, as well as optimization in production. In addition, we want to ensure optimal utilization of the entire fish,” Bylling said.

“With these initiatives, Danforel will continue to be the best buyer of fish produced in Danish aquaculture,” he added.

Danforel has lost money in the last four years. In 2021, the company booked a net loss of DKK 8.8 million (€1.18 million). At the turn of the year, the book equity was DKK 6.6 million (€890,000). The total debt burden at the same time was DKK 55.1 million (€7.41 million)).

Danforel’s CEO Erik Hansen will continue as the CEO of the company.
