New School Foods to launch mass production line.
Toronto-based food tech company New School Foods is set to announce the completion of its first mass production line for plant-based seafood, according to a briefing shared with media.
The company, which claims to have developed the only plant-based meat alternative that replicates the texture, cookability, and appearance of conventional fish, will also confirm new national distribution agreements and restaurant placements across Canada.
The announcement comes amid heightened economic tensions between the US and Canada and growing demand for domestic alternatives to American suppliers such as Impossible Foods, according to the company. New School’s plant-based salmon has reportedly gained traction with restaurants ranging from Michelin-starred establishments to four-star hotels following the US election.
