Andfjord Salmon has released approximately 550,000 smolt into pool K3 at its Kvalnes facility on Andøya, marking the start of production in the company’s third operational pool.
The fish, with an average weight of around 110 grams, were transferred from a wellboat into the pool during the second quarter, according to a market update from the land-based salmon farmer on Tuesday.
The smolt are expected to be grown as post-smolt under a cooperation agreement with Eidsfjord Sjøfarm.
K3 follows pools K0 and K1, which were stocked during the previous production cycle. Andfjord said the transfer process resulted in very low mortality and that the fish had adapted well to the new environment.
The company is continuing to ramp up production at Kvalnes as additional pools are brought into operation.
