Latest salmon deal for Basque seafood company.
Expansion reports that Angulas Aguinaga, owner of brands such as La Gula del Norte, Krissia and Aguinamar, has announced the acquisition of Copesco & Sefrisa. The Barcelona-based salmon and cod products company sells the brands Royal and Summumm.
The deal is part of surimi maker Angulas Aguinaga’s strategic plan to double turnover to EUR 450 million in the next five years.
Copesco & Sefrisa dates back to 1853 when founder José Daurella started to import cod to Spain from Iceland, Greenland, Norway and the Faroe Islands.
The company’s Royal smoked salmon brand has a market share of 9 per-cent accross Spains’ supermarket chains, reports The New Barcelona Post.
Private equity firm PAI Partners acquired a majority stake in Angulas Aguinaga last November. PAI Partners owns 50 per-cent of one of France’s main smokehouses Labeyrie Fine Foods, which in turn, owns Farne Salmon & Trout.
Angulas Aguinaga acquired a majority stake in the Italian salmon smoker Riunione in January 2020.
