Aquabyte doubles Chilean team as demand for AI tech grows.
AI aquaculture specialist Aquabyte has doubled the size of its Chilean operation, expanding its team in Puerto Varas to twelve employees across sales, customer support, field operations and insights.
“Chile is a rapidly growing market for us,” said Ignacio Oñate, Country Manager for Aquabyte Chile. “As more farmers adopt our AI-based systems, we’re strengthening our local presence to support that growth.”
The team now includes Karina Gajardo as Senior Sales Manager. A veterinarian with a PhD, Gajardo previously held roles at Skretting and BioMar.
“I’ve followed Aquabyte for years and watched how they’ve adapted their solutions to fit the Chilean industry – such as welfare monitoring for coho and automated Caligus lice counting,” she said. “When this opportunity came up, it was an easy decision.”
The company has also added staff to its customer insight and support functions, and expanded its field team responsible for deploying systems on farms.
“Since our first hire in 2021, it’s been a fast-moving journey,” said Oñate. “With this expansion, we’re in a better position to deliver value from day one and contribute to the development of Chilean aquaculture. No two farms are the same, and a strong local presence is essential.”
