Major consolidation in aquaculture maritime services as Trident Aqua Services launches.

A new global aquaculture maritime services company has launched following the completed merger of Aquaship, Intership and FSV Group. The new entity, Trident Aqua Services, brings together a combined fleet of more than 60 vessels and approximately 1,000 employees across seven countries, positioning it as the world’s second-largest aquaculture service provider.

Headquartered in Norway, Trident Aqua Services will maintain key operational hubs in Kristiansund, Molde, and Hareid, with active operations in Chile, the UK, Ireland, Canada, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands.

According to the company, the merger creates the first provider capable of offering a fully integrated service portfolio across all major vessel types used in aquaculture, including wellboats, service vessels, feed carriers and harvest boats. Several newbuilds are currently under construction.

“This is more than a rebrand,” said Arild Aasmyr, former CEO of FSV Group and now part of Trident’s executive team. “It’s a renewed commitment to the industry – to keep what works, improve what can be better, and never compromise on reliability, safety, or fish welfare.”

Trident’s leadership said the consolidation is a response to growing operational complexity and regulatory pressure in the sector. The company aims to deliver improved service integration and support for customers facing biological risk, climate-related disruptions, and rising costs.

“We chose the name Trident because it stands for strength, unity, and the sea,” said Trident CEO Ole Peter Brandal. “Three companies merged into one team – ready to move forward together. The name is new, but the people, the expertise, and the commitment to our customers remains the same.”

The company’s stated mission is “safeguarding sustainable seafood production” by supporting operational stability and fish welfare while advancing technological innovation.

The combined group is expected to pursue further growth in international markets while investing in technology and integrated service solutions tailored to the full lifecycle of aquaculture production.

Trident Aqua Services has not disclosed financial terms of the merger.
