First hybrid boat in Iceland marks a major milestone and a crossroads for the farming industry in Iceland says Moen Marin CEO.

Icelandic salmon producer Arnarlax has announced its acquisition of a new hybrid service boat from Moen Marin.

The vessel, designed with a battery, will operate with zero emissions, supporting Arnarlax’s commitment to environmental sustainability, according to a press release from the company issued on Thursday.

Bjørn Hembre, CEO of Arnarlax, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability.

“As one of Iceland’s largest breeders, Arnarlax must be a leader in the green shift,” said Hembre. “Our requirements are reflected in a good working environment, efficient and safe operations, as well as a reduced carbon footprint.”

Moen Marin, a prominent supplier to the aquaculture industry, has delivered approximately 300 vessels globally in the last decade, including 85 advanced hybrid boats with high battery capacity. This new vessel for Arnarlax is recognized as Iceland’s first hybrid service boat.

Michael Kristiansen, Moen Marin’s Sales Manager for Iceland, expressed gratitude for Arnarlax’s trust in their products and services.

“The contract for the first hybrid boat in Iceland marks a major milestone and a crossroads for the farming industry in Iceland. Arnarlax is an important and good customer of ours, and we greatly appreciate the trust they place in us as a supplier,” said Kristiansen.

“Arnarlax’s ambition to be the first to invest in a sustainable boat park has a decisive role towards a reduced climate footprint for the industry, and clearly shows the direction going forward.”
