Man dies in crush incident on vessel at Dusavika, police open investigation.
A man in his 30s died following a crush incident on board a vessel moored at Dusavika in Stavanger on Wednesday morning. Police said the deceased is a Norwegian citizen residing in Central Norway, and that next of kin have been notified.
Emergency services responded shortly after 10:00. At 10:43 the police operations leader confirmed the man had been declared dead at the scene.
Police described the case as a crush accident on a vessel at the quay. They have not released further details about the sequence of events.
Investigators will question the crew and the captain, and crime scene technicians will conduct examinations on site. The Norwegian Maritime Authority has been notified.
The fatal accident occurred on board the feed boat “Eidsvaag Marin,” according to iLaks.
This was confirmed by Eidsvaag’s general manager, Vidar Eidsvaag, to Hitra-Frøya on Wednesday evening. “It’s a deeply tragic accident with the worst possible outcome. It’s the worst thing that could happen,” says Eidsvaag.
“We don’t know much about the accident itself. The police and the Accident Investigation Board Norway will investigate the matter further. My thoughts go out to the deceased’s family and colleagues. You come close to each other in our profession. As a company, we follow up on our employees and also have contact with family,” says Eidsvaag.
