Proximar reports Q3 harvest of 356 tonnes, biomass at 1,389 tonnes.

Proximar Seafood has reported a standing biomass of 1,389 tonnes at its Oyama facility in Japan as of 29 September, up from 1,294 tonnes at the end of the second quarter. Gross biomass growth in the quarter was 524 tonnes, including 429 tonnes live weight harvested.

The company harvested 356 tonnes head-on gutted (HOG) in the third quarter, bringing year-to-date harvest to around 1,000 tonnes. Proximar currently has 21 batches and about 2.2 million salmon in production.

Average net selling price in the quarter was NOK 64/kg ($6.40), impacted by a higher share of smaller fish of around 3kg, weak spot market prices and a softer yen. For fish above 3kg, Proximar achieved NOK 94/kg ($9.40), a premium over imported Norwegian salmon. The average harvest weight was 2.33kg HOG, with 99.2 percent classed as superior quality.

CEO Joachim Nielsen said performance was affected by fish transfers and feeding system adjustments, but highlighted continued low mortality and high quality in harvests. “With all modules up and running and improved conditions, we expect growth rates to increase and gradually bring the harvested fish back to a market size of 3kg+,” he said.

The next production update will be included in Proximar’s third quarter report on 14 November.
