GroAqua has delivered a new high-capacity feed barge to Bakkafrost for use at the company’s farming operations in Fuglafjørður, Faroe Islands.

The new barge, named Torvgjógv, has a feed capacity of 700 tonnes and is equipped with GroAqua’s latest feeding system and software platform.

The 40-metre barge includes 18 feeding lines, allowing it to feed up to 18 sea cages simultaneously. GroAqua said the vessel is also prepared for future shore power connection to support lower-emission operations.

The feeding system includes AI-based optimisation tools intended to improve feed utilisation and operational efficiency, alongside remote monitoring and expanded reporting capabilities.

The barge was built at GroAqua’s production facilities in Poland, while the feeding technology and control systems were developed in the Faroe Islands.

According to GroAqua, the company has delivered four new feed barges to Bakkafrost over the past year, including two 700-tonne units and two 1,100-tonne units for farming sites across the Faroe Islands.

GroAqua employs more than 100 people and operates across the Faroe Islands, Norway, Scotland, Poland and Denmark.
