Bluefront Equity acquires majority stake in Aqua Kompetanse.

Seafood-focused private equity firm Bluefront Equity has become the largest shareholder in Aqua Kompetanse, one of Norway’s largest independent providers of environmental auditing and fish health services.

Once transactions are completed, Bluefront will hold about 55 percent of the company, while Havbruksparken Utvikling will retain 18 percent. The remaining shares are primarily held by founders and employees. Financial details were not disclosed.

Aqua Kompetanse, headquartered in Flatanger, Trøndelag, has around 80 employees across offices from Oslo to Tromsø. The company provides fish health services, environmental surveys, site license support, hydrographic surveys, and modelling of currents and waves.

Revenue rose from NOK 66 million in 2021 to NOK 113 million in 2024. Turnover is expected to reach NOK 130 million in 2025, with the company projecting a positive operating result after recent years of losses linked to expansion.

Former BioMar executive Jan Sverre Røsstad will become chairman of Aqua Kompetanse’s board. From Bluefront, Simen Landmark and Karina Wessel will join as directors.

Bluefront is investing through its Bluefront Capital II fund, which focuses on sustainable seafood companies.
