Per Grieg Jr. to step down from Grieg Seafood board after 33 years.
Per Grieg Jr., founder of Grieg Seafood, will step down from the company’s board of directors at the annual general meeting on 4 June 2025, marking the end of a 33-year tenure in leadership roles at the company.
Grieg, who has served as CEO, chair, and board member since co-founding the business in 1992, said the time had come to hand over leadership to a new generation. “It has been a true privilege to develop and lead Grieg Seafood throughout these years,” Grieg said in a statement. “Now it is time to pass the baton to a new generation. I will be rooting for Grieg Seafood and the salmon farming industry from the sidelines.”
Per Grieg Jr. entered the salmon farming sector from the family’s shipping business, where he worked as a shipbroker and CEO of Joachim Grieg & Co. He co-founded the sales company Grieg Norwegian Salmon in 1992, before acquiring stakes in small fish farms in Rogaland, Norway, in 1993. The company was listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange in 2007 and today operates in Finnmark and Rogaland in Norway, as well as British Columbia and Newfoundland in Canada.
Grieg Seafood is the world’s ninth-largest salmon farming company with a market value of approximately NOK 7.7 billion ($739 million/€661 million), and is guiding a harvest of 84,000 tonnes for 2025. The company has previously operated in Shetland and has been developed through a series of mergers and acquisitions.
Grieg also played roles in the IPOs of Fjord Seafood, Marine Farms, and Proximar, and was named EY Entrepreneur of the Year in Norway in 2018.
