Cargill’s Scottish aquafeed operations achieve ASC certification.

Cargill’s EWOS feed plant at Westfield, near Bathgate, Scotland, has been certified under the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Feed Standard, the company announced this week.

The ASC certification ensures that the site meets environmental, social, and supply chain requirements for producing feed suitable for ASC-certified aquaculture operations.

The Westfield plant is Cargill’s final salmon feed site to achieve the standard, following similar approvals at facilities in Norway, Chile and Canada. From October 31, 2025, ASC-certified farms will be required to use feed from ASC-certified mills.

“Achieving certifications for all our factories supplying EWOS feed plays an important role in our commitment towards a greater environmental and social responsibility in aquaculture,” said Sigurd Tonheim, strategic marketing and technology leader at Cargill. “This is a result of good work and dedication by a cross-functional team.”

Cargill said the certification positions the company to continue supplying ASC-compliant feed across all major salmon-producing regions as the new rules take effect.

The ASC Feed Standard assesses criteria including deforestation-free sourcing, labour rights, energy use, and raw material traceability. Cargill’s compliance is expected to help ASC-certified farms meet upcoming regulatory and market expectations, particularly in Europe.
