Chile’s Court of Appeal authorise the farming of 2 million salmon in the Beagle Channel

In April, La Prensa Austral reported on the decision of the Court of Appeals of Punta Arenas that paralyzed the operations of the salmon industry in the Beagle Channel, Chile.

But now a ruling, if it is final, will allow the company Nova Austral to advance with the project of farming 2 million salmon in four cages to be installed in the Beagle. Though as the channel’s waters do not recognize political borders between Chile and Argentina – this could spell issues in the future.

Nova Austral recently aquaired a site from the Stengel family – though they do not intend to occupy that particular one.
