Information sought on possible escapes at Mowi and Cermaq sites

The Directorate of Fisheries has initiated oversight of these incidents and urges anyone who catches farmed salmon in the vicinity to provide information.

The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries is requesting public assistance following incidents reported by salmon farming giants Cermaq and Mowi, according to a statement released Monday.

Cermaq reported significant damage to a cage at their Kråkevik site in Altafjord on Friday, 21 June. The affected cage contained salmon averaging 1.2 kilograms each. Despite setting up recapture nets, no salmon have been retrieved, and the recapture effort has concluded.

On Sunday, 23 June, Mowi reported a similar incident at their Munkskjæra locality west of Frøya, where damage was also detected. The salmon at this site have an average weight of 3.4 kilograms.
