Holmøy Havbruk reports third ISA suspicion in May.
Norwegian salmon producer Holmøy Havbruk has notified Norwegian authorities of a new suspected outbreak of Infectious Salmon Anaemia (ISA) at its Holand site in Sortland, Nordland.
This marks the third ISA notification from the company within the same month. The latest suspicion, reported on 28 May, is based on clinical observations. Confirmation is pending analysis by the Norwegian Veterinary Institute.
The Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) has introduced temporary movement restrictions at the Holand facility. Should the diagnosis be confirmed, further measures—including a potential site clearance—may be mandated.
The two previous incidents occurred at:
-
Stretarneset: ILA suspicion reported 2 May; confirmed 12 May
-
Trolløya SV: ILA reported 14 May; site scheduled for depopulation on 16 May
ISA is a Category C disease under Norwegian regulations, requiring containment but not immediate eradication. The virus affects mucous membranes, gills, and skin, and can lead to significant production losses if not contained.
