Heavier harvest weights signal early gains for Norwegian salmon producers.
Norwegian salmon producers are seeing earlier biological growth in 2025, with average harvest weights and volumes for the January–May period ahead of the same period last year, according to an update from analytics group Oceans of Data.
In May, the average harvest weight reached 5.59 kg — above 2024 levels for the same month and approaching the July 2024 peak of 5.90 kg. Harvest volumes are also trending upward, raising expectations for a strong third-quarter harvest window.
Last year, Norway’s salmon harvest volumes peaked between August and October, with 181,770 tonnes recorded in September. Earlier weight gains this year may allow producers to bring forward harvests and align output with peak seasonal demand.
Oceans of Data, which provides biological and export modeling tools to the seafood sector, reports that export flows from March to June have closely tracked model forecasts, improving confidence in forward planning.
