The fire department had not yet identified the source of the smoke.

Smoke was reported onboard a feed barge belonging to Norwegian salmon farming giant SalMar off Mortensnes on Årøya in Norway’s Alta municipality on Wednesday Sep. 13, according to local news source iFinnmark.

SalMar Regional Manager, Per Magne Bølgen, confirmed he was on site along with the Alta Fire Department.

Bølgen informed iFinnmark that there were no individuals on the barge when the incident occurred. “Everyone had safely reached the shore. From what we can see, there were no personal injuries, only property damage,” said Bølgen.

Terje Olsen, the shift leader at Finnmark’s emergency center, told the newspaper that the fire department had not yet identified the source of the smoke.

To assist the fire department, the rescue boat “Vekteren” was dispatched to the scene.
