Fishmongers’ Company to host seafood education conference and industry forum in London.

The Fishmongers’ Company will host the “Fish Hero Teacher Awards and Conference” on June 20th in London, recognising the progress of its seafood education programme for secondary schools and bringing together stakeholders from across the UK seafood supply chain.

The initiative, now in its sixth year, provides secondary school food teachers with resources to deliver curriculum-aligned seafood lessons. In 2023, the programme distributed 33,000 seafood portions to classrooms across the UK, with support from partners including ASMI, Fastnet, Offshore Shellfish, DFDS, and M&J Seafood.

The event will feature a dedicated industry-only meeting ahead of the main conference, aimed at exploring how the seafood sector can expand its engagement with schools and improve awareness of seafood as a healthy, affordable, and sustainable protein source among teenagers.

The main conference will include speakers from the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Seafish, the British Nutrition Foundation, the Jersey Department of Fisheries, and Leiths Education. Joanne Woodhouse of UK Seafood Fund (UKSF) will also present, highlighting the career opportunities available to young people in the seafood sector.
