Former Tesco aquaculture lead joins Cargill

Weis joined Tesco as aquaculture manager in October 2019, before leaving for Tilapia farmer Regal Springs in 2023.

Regal Springs Group Sustainability Manager Benjamin Weis has announced his departure from the tilapia producer to take on a new role as Aqua Nutrition Sustainability Lead with Cargill.

During his tenure at Regal Springs, Weis supported production operations in multiple countries and collaborated with sales teams in the US and Europe, as well as the executive management team, to enhance the company’s sustainable farming practices.

The sustainability manager expressed gratitude to his colleagues, acknowledging their passion and commitment to advancing aquaculture practices in a post on LinkedIn on Thursday.

Weis started his career in Germany where he was involved in researching the potential of alternative plant proteins for fish diets. After an internship in China with a Recirculated Aquaculture System Supplier, he moved to Stirling (Scotland) to acquire a master’s degree in Sustainable Aquaculture funded with a scholarship granted by the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC).

Following hands-on experience as a Fish Health Specialist for Scottish Sea Farms in Orkney, Weis joined the Mowi Graduate Management Trainee Programme which led to a Farm Site Manager role on the Isle of Lewis (Outer Hebrides) with a biomass consent of over 4000t. Weis joined Tesco as Aquaculture Manager in October 2019, before leaving for Tilapia farmer Regal Springs in 2023.
