120 jobs to go.
The German newspaper Schweriner Volkszeitung reports that the salmon processor and smokehouse Gottfried Friedrichs is closing its facility in Waren an der Müritz.
The Northern Germany facility has around 120 employees and processes salmon (some by hand) and caviar products. The jobs are set to go by March 2022.
In 2020, Gottfried Friedrichs signaled to Lebensmittel Praxisthat it wants to “significantly streamline” its structures and move its Waren an der Müritz production to the company’s Polish location in Doble.
Wild salmon is Friedrichs’ flagship product, which it has been sourcing from Alaska since 1914. It also sources farmed salmon from Norway, Scotland and Ireland.
