Two employees from Scottish Sea Farms were recognised at the Lantra Scotland Awards for Land-based and Aquaculture Skills (ALBAS), held at the Crieff Hydro Hotel.
Craig Findlay, a senior marine technician based in Strathcarron in the Highlands, was named Aquaculture Learner of the Year. Findlay completed a Diploma in Aquaculture through the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) Shetland’s Marine Science and Technology Department while working at the company’s Kishorn site.
A colleague from the company’s Shetland operations, aqua technician Finley Forwood, was named runner-up in the same category. Forwood completed a Modern Apprenticeship in Aquaculture through UHI Shetland while working as a fish health specialist at the Girlsta freshwater hatchery.
Findlay entered the aquaculture sector four years ago after previously serving 13 years in the British Army. He undertook his studies alongside operational duties, often completing coursework during periods when weather conditions prevented offshore work.
Forwood, who has continued his studies at Level 4, was also named Marine Sciences Student of the Year at UHI Shetland in 2025.
The ALBAS awards programme aims to promote careers in land-based and aquaculture industries and recognise the achievements of learners and employers investing in sector skills. Finalists are selected by an independent panel drawn from across the rural and aquaculture sectors.
