Hilton working with Tesco to make 30% of salmon packaging from recycled marine sources says Hilton UK CEO.

Consumers want to use salmon on more occasions, Hilton Seafood UK CEO Matt Lee told attendees at the North Atlantic Seafood Forum in Bergen on Wednesday.

“We need to be able to meet that demand as an industry, said Lee. “We need to make the products more attractive to them.”

Hindering the growth of salmon is the price, which right now is the highest of all popular proteins, according to the exec.

The key to overcoming this is to improve the offering by improving the story around salmon, said the CEO.

One of the ways Hilton is doing that is to incorporate recycled plastic into the packaging used for salmon at Tesco, the UK’s largest retailer. The company is currently working towards replacing 30% of all plastic used with recycled marine plastics.

The move echoes Mowi’s commitment to replace at least 25% of its packaging with recycled plastic content by 2025, with all plastic farming equipment (nets, ropes, feeding pipes) currently reused or recycled.
