UK Seafood Federation to host national conference on consumption challenge.
The newly established UK Seafood Federation will host a national conference in London on 13 October to address one of the sector’s central challenges, how to increase seafood consumption in the UK.
The event, held at Fishmongers’ Hall, is being organised in partnership with The Fishmongers’ Company, Seafood Scotland, Seafish Industry Authority, Ocean Fish Limited and the Marine Stewardship Council.
Keynote contributions are expected from Henry Dimbleby of Bramble Partners, alongside senior leadership representatives from across the seafood supply chain. Topics will include seafood’s role in healthier diets, sustainability and future food systems.
UK seafood consumption continues to lag behind NHS dietary recommendations. The federation said the conference aims to initiate a sector-wide discussion on how industry, government and society can collaborate to shift consumer behaviour.
“Our mission is to be the sector’s voice in making seafood a bigger part of the British diet, for a healthier nation and planet,” said UK Seafood Federation chairperson Simon Smith. “This conference, engaging the leadership of Henry Dimbleby and the involvement of all the UK’s seafood stakeholders, demonstrates the UK Seafood Federation is a serious and credible leader in the UK seafood industry.”
