An unnamed foreign investor has made an offer in excess of NOK 1.3 billion ($130 million) for the World Seafood Center located at Gardermoen, Norway

The sale is already underway on the sprawling 55,000 square meter facility, with the due diligence process expected to conclude by summer, the managing director of Oslo Airport City, Thor Thoeneie told Norwegian media outlet Finansavisen.

The World Seafood Center stands as the world’s largest dedicated seafood refrigeration facility, and its sale by Oslo Airport City is aimed at lightening their balance sheet. The facility cost NOK 1.3 billion ($130 million) to build according to the report, which indicates that the bid received is in excess of this outlay.

A desire to reduce debt to explore financing options for potential future projects, is behind the sale according to Thoeneie.

The largest stake in Oslo Airport City is owned by Norwegian businessman and art collector Christen Sveaas, who holds 30 percent. Tenants within the center include Mowi and Grieg Seafood, which recently secured a lease for 4,000-5,000 square meters to establish a new processing facility.

The factory will have an annual processing capacity of 10,000–12,000 tons, with an option of increasing the capacity to 20,000 tons if needed at a later stage.
